Taking a cold shower may sound like a very difficult feat but, when you know the benefits it brings, you will surely propose to perform this refreshing ritual... Even in winter.
Why take cold showers?
Well let's get to the point and turn on the cold water, the benefits of cold water on your body are:
Speeds up circulation: Exposure to cold temperatures triggers the circulatory system to reduce inflammation and can help prevent cardiovascular disease.
Reduces muscle inflammation: Who hasn't been prescribed cold exposure by their therapist, to reduce inflammation after an injury? Well, it's not a joke. Cold water lowers inflammation, so after a good workout it would be the most appropriate to recover earlier.
Helps Heal Depressions: When in contact with cold water, the brain automatically releases endorphins to cope with physical shock, promoting feelings of euphoria, appetite regulation, the release of sex hormones and an increased immune response.
Stronger immune system: the bloodstream is stimulating the production of leukocytes, which help fight infection and build resistance to common diseases.
It helps you wake up and activate alertness: it is the best thing you can do as soon as you wake up, the shock that it produces increases your heart rate.
And how do I do it if I'm terrified of getting under cold water?
Well, very simple, always start with warm water, relax, clean yourself well and when you are ready to go out... Turn the cold water fridge to maximum even 30 seconds. The shock will wake you up and it will be uncomfortable.
But after having done it you will feel like never before!
In my opinion, the best time is in the morning as soon as you get up to activate the body or after having done morning exercise.
Later at night if I have to shower I prefer it to be warmer so the body relaxes to sleep better.
I hope you give it a try and let me know what it feels like.
My body changed with it, apart from improving my lifestyle with exercise, good nutrition, cold showers are the best complement.
